Native Hampshire Countian Has It All Wrong
I was on my way to inlaws last week when I once again saw the sign that has been the root of a sore spot with me for several months. After doing some digging, I found out that the "brilliant" real estate agent who put up the sign is a local boy and should know better than to insult the natives like he has.
The sign that has me on my soap box is a rather nondescript, black and white corrugated sign which bears the words "Small Farms For Sale". Now I don't know about you, but I consider a small farm to be at least 30-40 acres. Not these. They are 5 acre lots in a subdivided parcel. Now since they're essentially in a subdivision, they really don't even meet the definition of a farm. The 5 acre part is what really gets me. How in the heck can you call 5 acres a small farm? It's not even a farmette!
It gets better. The person selling the "small farms" is none other that Keenan "Big Country" (now "Small Farm") Shanholtz who is the son of former county commissioner Garry Shanholtz. He should know better. He's a native of this county and knows darned well that 5 acres is not enough for a real farm! That's insulting to all of the real farmers in Hampshire County. I'm starting to think perhaps "Big Country" should move to the BIG CITY where he seems to belong. Not only that, but tell me, Keenan, what would legally raise on your 5 acre "small farm"?
